412 photos. Easy hike on mostly curated gravel paths. Lots of places to walk the dog. › Palmetto State Park › Dogs Leash. Helpful. Part of the trail follows the river on a high cliff. Park is very nice/clean. The views are beautiful and it’s about 80% shaded. Lots of benches to rest. Nice park. Features. No elevation changes. It is a solidified remnant of molten lava known as a batholith and is one of the largest in the United States. Red Robin’s where out and about.
The 6 cabins are near the Vermilion River, and there is a boat launch in the park which leads to the river. We linked all the trails (except the lake trail) and they were under 3 miles and practically made a loop. They even have a path to cool off in the San Marcos river which was nice. Drove by Palmetto State Park a number of years ago.

Here are 4 dog friendly Texas parks you should take your dog.If you’re a fan of Jurassic Park, then this park is one you definitely visit soon. The campground has improved sites and 2 comfort stations. The trail is wide and well maintained in most areas. Nicely shaded throughout.These trails all have a great views of the woods surrounding the area. Share. Some campsites have a concrete substrate and are wheelchair accessible. Would make a lovely jogging path. The terrain here is pretty flat, but it's very cool to walk through the swamp and forest.#1 - San Marcos River, Mesquite Flats, and Ottine Swamp Trails C L wrote a review Mar 2018. Located on the Vermilion River, Palmetto Island State Park offers a real south Louisiana outdoors experience. And the paths themselves are fairly stable, mostly flat and a few plank covered areas. One part of the trek had a bench nestled in the middle of this fantastic palmetto forest to take in the sites and admire and appreciate the quiet.
Watch Queue Queue. Super easy loop. With old-growth trees draped in Spanish moss and a wealth of semi-tropical vegetation, this green oasis appears pulled straight of of prehistoric times. My wife, Anita, surprised me yesterday with a "secret" day trip to a place we've promised a return.

Of course, you probably won’t be doing much swimming this late in the year, but you and your dog can take advantage of the beautiful trails lined with informational signs about the indigenous plant and wildlife.At 265 acres, Lockhart State Park is just big enough to spend a whole day in without feeling overwhelmed or getting lost.We’ve saved the best for last – at least when it comes down to the color changing leaves that fall brings. Nice half day trip from Austin. Diverse scenery makes for a nice change. You end up in the parking lot then it’s a short walk from one parking lot to the next to get to your car. Wife and I had a great walk. Liz and all the park staff make you feel like they’re glad you’re there.This is beautiful well kept trail anyone can enjoy. Palmetto State Park is a place that stands apart from the rest of Central Texas. Definitely a morning hike in summer or afternoon in fall. There is a variety of trees, fauna and birds. There are white tail deer in some areas and palmettos throughout much of it.Just an enjoyable hike on a beautiful trail. It’s very clean.

With little kids the trail, which eventually runs into the Mesquite trail, takes a little over 1.5 hours with kids and stops. Owls, woodpeckers, dear, birds, toads, snails and more. Great for kids and geriatric dogs. The land was acquired by deeds from private owners and the City of Gonzales in 1934 - 1936 and was opened in 1936. Not an exciting hike, but pretty and so quiet and peaceful. Other than that its great area to ride or walk through.Great park with a variety of natural settings!
