Based on the Inspector Banks novels from … and Mr Tompkins is great if this series too! Series 1, Episode 8 A surveillance operation establishes a clear link between the murders of Charles McKay and Barry Clough and the subsequent investigation takes a number of alarming twists before uncovering a conspiracy pointing to one of the team being an informer. It was well acted and well-written. Also, I don't miss the character of Annie Cabbot since the convoluted relationship between her and Banks was distracting and the stories would have stood on their own merit without this sideshow. But, at least it had a definite ending with most of the major issues resolved, unlike some series that end with a non ending. A case terrifyingly close to home occurs as Banks is asked by his boss to find his missing teenage daughter. If you like British mysteries, you will like this series.
