I'm sure I would have loved this book when I was a kid, but I felt so overstimulated reading this now, especially when it also told me that there were more than 80 flaps to look for. Strangely, the flaps are hard to open.

Each page is a different city around the globe with very detailed stylized illustrations. Incredibly detailed, the hidden doors are fun. Kind of a neat picture book. I was debating whether to grab one for my nephew but it is far too delicate and I could imagine him ripping the flaps shorty after finding them (if he manages to find them as he's one year's old haha). The colors used are vibrant and appealing, and I really liked the idea behind this book with its thick pages intended to stand up to much use, but I wish the cities had been identified at some point, either on the double-page spreads or as part of the back matter. This is the song she is most known for, which has led to her being considered a one hit wonder in many countries. Lovely journey around the world, with a great message of how we are culturally different but still the same, underneath. I was obviously more impressed than my daughter (at this point), but she enjoyed the flaps nonetheless. Would recommend to anyone who loves art, or children with an active imagination. Lovely renditions of a variety countries that invite children to explore and discover the many differences we enjoy. There are flaps that will considerably shorten the life of the book for a library. A small poem accompanies each city. There is a short verse that gives clues of there the scene is in the world. Is this Istanbul with turrets and carpets? One I couldn't tell for sure -- Africa or Middle East? 80 flaps lead readers on a journey around the world. To make this book even better, I would've added an answer key (which countries match with which pages).

Somehow it fell slightly short, even though it's beautiful (especially the cover, which is a mix of all the cities and is frame-worthy). Travel to a new country with every turn of the page, each with new surprises to discover: peek through windows, open doors, and delve underground by opening the many flaps on every spread. A composite of global cultures, Walk this World celebrates the everyday similarities and differences that exist between cultures around the world. Vividly and imaginatively drawn with 80 flaps to open, I cannot wonder how this would survive long in a child’s hand before the flaps are torn.
